Assignment #7: Social Media

Social media in today’s society has become such a large part of the lives of those who use it. It was initially created as a means to share ideas, thoughts, and information through various communities and virtual networks. The purpose of social media is to build the trust of relationships as well as to persuade and inform. We are well past the days of MySpace, but they still hold true to some core intentions of social media. I’m sure everyone still has an older relative or two who loves to post old embarrassing pictures of the family or posts pictures of their latest cooking creations. While that element of social media still exists there is also this new business side to social media that is expanding rapidly.

It seems like there are always two types of people on social media, those who happen to be and those who want to be. Those who happen to be are people who are on social media for the camaraderie and already have established themselves whether in their careers, families, etc. While the other type of people is those who want, they see social media as a creative outlet and way to make their dreams come true. Whether they enjoy drawing, cooking, sharing your relationship, or just posing for cute pictures there is a place for you on social media if your goal is to become a social media influencer or just to keep in contact with family and friends.

Over the past few years, I have seen an increase in social media for children, as in social media run by the parents or guardians from children starting at their birth. I have seen social people discussing the perception or opinion of newborns and toddlers. After going down a rabbit hole of looking at adorable children on Instagram in particular I saw most of the families start the pages as a way to save and share their child's cute moments with family, friends, and the world. Some of the parents also create the pages to possibly help get their children modeling opportunities and such. This goes to show that social media is available to all age groups and can be utilized as fun as well as business and work.
